Australia Day Parties

Now that the New Year is well and truly behind us we finally have an excuse for a little party Australia Day this year falls on Tuesday January 26th. Whilst I know that you’re not all Australian, I also know that you’ll appreciate a few ideas for partying during the coming week 😉

The downer of course is that Tuesday is not a great partying day, but in true Australian form, most of the partying will take place the weekend before. Otherwise I’ve also included some great alternatives for Tuesday the 26th.

Party with a BBQ at The Hangar

For the quintessential Australia Day celebration there must be a BBQ. The folks at The Hangar in Arab Street, a very cool and casual venue, will have the BBQ sizzling from 7.30pm. The food is meaty, they’re offering lamb, snags and shrimps as well as a cauli salad, all you can eat for $29.90 or buy individual dishes on the night. These guys know how to party and they’ve got Neil Goldberg who apparently knows how to, “funk up any venue.” Sounds good to me.

An International Party at Ce La Vie

Whilst Ce La Vie (formerly Ku De Ta) is not my favourite kind of venue (touristy, blingy, expensive), they are hosting a Sky High Brunch party on Saturday 23rd January that sounds very appealing. And no, this is not an Australian themed brunch at all, it just happens to be on the weekend before Australia Day and it’s a novelty in that a Saturday brunch is hard to find in this town. This one could be dangerous, think free flow Champers, cocktails, buffet and top that with DJ’s and dipping pools. Sounds very Ibiza to me.

Australia Day Party with a Quiz at Booma (don’t tell me you’ve never been drunk at a quiz night 😉 )

Boomarang is one of those places that is fit for a particular purpose. That being anything to do with Australia or sport, and ideally both. They also do a pretty cool quiz night and to celebrate Australia Day there’ll be a quiz night on Monday and Thursday next week. Read more here.

Head to Australia via Argentina

BoCHINche on Martin Road has just revamped their menu and they’re also offering a great deal on Tuesdays. Head down between 5.30pm and 8.30pm and order a Chimichurri burger (yum!) and get a FREE BEER. Sounds pretty Australian to me! You can read more about BoCHINche here, and I have to say, this is one of my favourite restaurants in Singapore for the consistency of food, the creative menu options and the good service (and you know they don’t pay me to say that!).
22 Martin Road, #02-01, 239058 (the restaurant is above Common Man Coffee Roasters and the entrance is around the corner though a glass door on Arnasalam Chetty Road. You’ll need to take the lift to the second floor)

Have a House Party

House parties on Australia Day are somewhat of a tradition. One of the national radio stations, Triple J, plays the Hottest 100 of the year before, so your playlist is sorted and all you need to do is grab some meat for the barbie and a few tinnies to complete the ultimate Australia Day experience. And in 2016 you can use an app like TuneIn Radio to stream the J’s live. Go on, give it a try yourself

And do tell us all about your own Australia Day parties!!
