Real Food Becomes Really Cool

Every cloud has a silver lining and this week it’s in the form of Real Food moving to Orchard Central. I was more than a little sad when Kilo at Pact moved from their uber cool space at Orchard Central, it was a great place to go for healthy food that didn’t cost the earth. Now Real Food have moved in and the healthy box is well and truly ticked for Orchard Central.

The Real Food team have made great use of the space. There’s an open kitchen, ample seating at tables, lounging areas where you can peruse the books on the shelves and a supermarket selling a range of fresh food and groceries. I’ve always loved the ethos of the folks at Real Food, they’re firm believers in sourcing the best ingredients to bring fresh food to you that’s high quality.

A backdrop of light from the floor to ceiling windows matches the clean eating concept that Real Food specialises in. The open kitchen and comfy seating are warm and inviting and the menu retains most, if not all, the favourites from the Killiney Road location. There’s the added bonus of a mini supermarket selling a range of organic food too.

Whilst a lot of the food is light, think salads and soups, there’s also a wide range of hearty vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian fare. The list includes ‘burgers’ made of quinoa and rice, pastas and rice dishes, to name a few.

On my last visit I went for a baked rice dish packed with veggies and smothered in melted cheese. It was super hearty but not overly oily or filling. Portion sizes are good too. None of the ridiculous sizes of meals that I’ve seen on my recent trips to Australia.

My partner in crime went for the noodles with mushrooms and veggies, plus an added egg. This was a really clean dish, with chilli on the side, adding a bit of flavour.

There is also fresh organic bread for sale. I tried a loaf of the sourdough which was a very traditional style, heavy and full of flavour but without the bloating that I get from a lot of other bread.

We had great service on our visit too, very friendly staff who knew the menu and could advise accordingly. Another highlight is the range of fresh juices and smoothies available. I went for a beetroot, ginger and carrot juice that gave me a super boost for the afternoon.

Real Food now have five outlets in Singapore, see locations below. They’re a sure fire winner for healthy food that won’t leave you hungry afterwards.
